FDM Printing
Your project is put through the Slicer software, which analyzes it layer by layer and generates support structures and the build path.
Then we load the filament into the printer, which is heated up and fed through a hot end extruder, like a stick through a hot glue gun, and laid across the print bed.
Once complete, we take off of the build plate. The supports are removed, and the product is looked over for any imperfections or defects. Then we clean it up and prepare it for shipping or painting!
Resin Printing
We also run resin prints through a Slicer. With resin, creating a hollow object requires manipulation to prevent any vacuum from being created, which would destroy the print. Supports are generated and each layer is analyzed as it will be used in the curing process.
The build plate is lowered into the vat of resin and pressed against the FEP which is separates the vat from the UV screen. Specific sections are lit up in order to cure the shape of each layer to the plate. The plate is raised, new resin fills the void, and the plate is lower to cure another layer.
Once completed, we remove the plate. Take the print off and put it through a wash cycle, to get all the excess resin off. Finally, it is placed on a cure plate, and blasted with UV light until hardened.
Painting
We prime each item so the paint has something to grip.
Once dry, it is time to paint by hand or with an airbrush. Depending on your needs. I like to use speed paints since they assist with the natural shadows and gradients to highlights.
After the paint is allowed to dry, we can varnish if the project will be handled a lot of brushed against, to keep the paint from wearing off.
